Corrosion : Causes and effect
Corrosion very often we encounter in everyday life. Another name of
corrosion is also called rust. Corrosion itself generally occurs in metal
objects such as iron. Corrosion is the reaction between the metal with the
surrounding substances such as air and water causing new compounds. In the
composition of the new compound is a solid color brown reddish fragile and
porous. The chemical formula of rust is Fe2O3.xH2O.
Corrosion Causes
Corrosion occurs because of the reaction between the metal and the substances around it.
In rust, rust can occur because moist air (oxygen and water) corrodes (reacts) to the iron so-
that a new substance appears, reddish brown solids. Corrosion event itself is an electrochemical process,
namely a process (change / chemical reaction) that involves the flow of electricity.
Part of iron acts as a negative pole (negative electrode, anode),
while the other part is a positive pole (positive electrode, cathode).
Electrons flow from the anode to the cathode, resulting in corrosion events.
Corrosion Prevention
Corrosion can cause harm because it can reduce the age of goods made of iron.
The corrosion process requires oxygen and water therefore the principle to prevent-
corrosion is by avoiding contact with either oxygen or water.
Here are some ways you can do to prevent / slow down corrosion:- Paint
Paint can prevent direct contact between iron and moist air so that it can slow corrosion.
This method is usually done on doors, fences, iron pipes, and others.
Oil with oil
Oil-lubricating can prevent direct
Wrapped with plastic
This method is commonly used for example on a dish rack and bicycle basket.
Tin Plating
Tin plating is coating with tin. This method is usually done on tin packaging
because tin is an anti-rust metal.
Galvanisai
Galvanizing is coating with zinc. This is done because zinc is also an anti-rust metal.
For example on: electric poles or telephone poles, water papa, and fences.
Cromium Plating
Cromium Plating is coating using chromium. Just like zinc,
chromium can provide protection against corrosion even if there is a broken chromium layer.
This way is usually done on bikes and bumper cars.
Icha, whether corrosion can also occur in tablespoons. What's the effect if we're still using a rusty spoon? And how to choose a rust-proof spoon?
BalasHapusBacteria release toxins that cause nervous system disorders. Clostridium tetani caused by nervous system disorders will lead to locked jaws, stiff neck, body irritability, high fever, and difficulty swallowing. Prolonged pain killers use to counteract this effect can lead to kidney failure and heart attacks, which further lead to death.
Hapus
BalasHapusCan you tell me whether corrosion only occurs on metal?
thanks
Corrosion can also be interpreted as an attack that damages the metal because the metal reacts chemically or electrochemically with the environment. There is another definition which says that corrosion is the opposite of a metal extraction process from its mineral ore. For example, iron ore minerals in the wild are present in the form of iron oxide or iron sulphide compounds, after extracting and treating, an iron will be produced for the manufacture of steel or alloy steel. During use, the steel will react with the environment causing corrosion (back to the iron oxide compound).
HapusCorrosion or rusting is very common in iron. Iron is a rusty metal. Iron rust is a substance that is produced in the event of corrosion, which is a reddish brown solid color that is fragile and porous. The chemical formula of rust is Fe2O3.xH2O. When left, the iron will eventually run out rust.
Explain some characteristics of metal characteristics that are easy to experience the land, why is that?
BalasHapus1. Iron
HapusIron is a metal derived from iron ore (minerals) which is widely used for everyday human life dalm tbel periodic, iron has a symbol Fe and has atomic omor 26. Iron also has a high economic value.
Iron is the most widely used and most diverse metal. That's because some things like: The abundance of iron on the earth's skin is large enough, the processing is relatively easy and cheap, and iron has properties that are profitable and easy to modify.
One of the weakness of iron is easy to iron corrosion. Corrosion causes a lot of harm because it reduces the life of various goods or buildings that are made of iron and steel.
2. Steel
Try Agan think! How can the Eifel tower in Paris France stand firmly as high as 300 meters and still be able to survive for years despite being hit by strong winds and earthquakes? One of them alsannya is caused by the structure and the basic building materials are strong steel. Do you know what steel is?
Steel or called black iron is usually used as a major component in engines, automobile frames, ships, trains, tools, weapons, and as a building frame. Steel is actually an alloy between iron (Fe) as the main material with carbon (C) of about 0.2% to 2.1%. In addition to carbon in the steel is also contained manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), silicon (Si), and a small portion of oxygen (O), nitrogen (N), and aluminum (Al). Improved quality of steel is usually accomplished by the addition of nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo), boron (B), titanium (Ti), vanadium (V), and niobium (Nb). The function of the carbon element in steel is as a hardener and increases its tensile strength so as to prevent the shift of atoms in steel. This is because the carbon can fill in the empty space between iron atoms in metal bonds so that more dense and hard.
4. Chromium
Chromium is a metal that has crepes of Cr. Chromium has a shiny, hard and silver color
